Special Weather Statement issued July 19 at 7:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA
At 700 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Topnot, or 7 miles southeast of Yanceyville, moving east at 20 mph.
HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include…
Prospect Hill…
Milton…
Leasburg…
Semora…
Topnot…
Hightowers…
and Baynes.
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for
north central North Carolina…and south central Virginia.
