Special Weather Statement issued July 1 at 6:55PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC

At 654 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8
miles northeast of Downtown Asheville, near the Blue Ridge
Parkway, moving southwest at 10 mph.

HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include…
Asheville, Woodfin, Weaverville, the B.R. Parkway between East
Asheville and Craggy Gardens, UNC Asheville, Barnardsville, and Flat
Creek.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
