Special Weather Statement issued June 22 at 6:50PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA
At 650 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Jumping Branch, or near Hinton, moving east at 50 mph.
HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 40 mph.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include…
Lewisburg…
Hinton…
White Sulphur Springs…
Ronceverte…
Alderson…
Union…
and Neola.
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in
ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and
minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid
hydroplaning.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for
southwestern and west central Virginia…and southeastern West
Virginia.
