At 1021 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles southeast
of St. Elmo, or 20 miles east of Vandalia, moving east at 55 mph.
HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to
roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include…
St. James and St. Elmo.
This includes Interstate 70 in Illinois near exit 76.
Seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from
windows. This storm is capable of producing damaging winds and large
hail.
Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Seek shelter
immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built
structure.
